Chemical engineers touch every aspect of our lives.  They help design and manufacture computer chips, develop new medicines and medical equipment, improve recycling and restoration processes, improve water purification processes, and develop energy resources.  Typically, a chemical engineer works in a laboratory or manufacturing facility to design chemical processing, ensure facility safety, and improve process efficiency.

Some companies in New Mexico that employ chemical engineers include:  Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory, SolAero Technologies Corp, Ensign Energy Services, Intel, Ideal Spectroscopy, Occidental Petroleum, and Holly Frontier Corporation.

San Juan College is collaborating with New Mexico State University’s Chemical Engineering Program to offer the first two years of the Chemical Engineering B.S. degree at San Juan College.  As part of this program, you will take math, English, physics, and chemistry courses at SJC.  In addition, each semester you will enroll in at least one chemical engineering course taught by NMSU faculty through synchronous distance education.  Using Panopto technology, you will watch lectures live on your computer with the ability to interact with the instructor and fellow students remotely.  Upon completion of your A.S. degree, you will transfer to the NMSU Las Cruces campus to complete the last four semesters of the ABET Accredited B.S. degree.
